How to Read a Water Meter – Including Pulse Output Systems
Traditional Meters: Analog and Digital
Analog Meters
Analog meters display water usage with rotating dials or mechanical counters. To read one:

Locate the meter (often outside near the curb or indoors in a utility room).

Read the numbers left to right, typically in cubic meters or gallons.

Ignore red or decimal digits if present.
Digital Meters
Digital meters display total water usage on an LCD screen. Some may alternate between multiple data points like flow rate and cumulative volume.
Pulse Water Meters: What Makes Them Different?
Unlike standard meters, pulse-output water meters don’t have a visible reading window. Instead, they emit electrical pulses, where each pulse corresponds to a fixed volume of water—commonly 1 liter, 10 liters, or 1 gallon.
These pulses are transmitted to a connected device:

Or a remote monitoring platform.
For example:
If 1 pulse = 10 liters and the display shows 350 pulses, your consumption is 3,500 liters (3.5 m³).

Reading Pulse Meters: Wired vs Wireless Readers
